Original Kin is run by Miriam Silverman (@mymisicle on Twitter), who studied Economic History at Manchester University and gained an M.A. by Research in Business History from Leeds University. She spent several years as a Research Assistant on various academic projects, utilising resources such as the Public Record Office at Kew and the London bank archives. She also undertook commercial research in London, where she handled online databases and became conversant with the intricacies of online research.

Miriam moved into family research after taking an interest in the origins of her husband’s Shropshire roots. After establishing an extensive tree going back six centuries, she was asked to undertake paid research for other families, and quickly established a clientele. She is able to use her expertise in nineteenth and twentieth century economic and social history to provide context and depth to a family’s history, where necessary.

The design and publication aspects of the business is run by Tim Bailey (@timbailey on Twitter).
